The saga continues

Just in time for Christmas... Harper's Bazaar presents the hottest mortal / vampire couple in their December issue. Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson are probably having their busiest Christmas' ever with their recently released New Moon breaking box office history. Stewart dressed in everything from Alexander Wang, Prada and Versace steers clear of homebody Bella Swan's wardrobe. Although Pattinson maintains the same enticing and longing gaze as Edward.

Joyeux Noël!

There is always the lingering thought while browsing online, in stores and magazines searching for the perfect cocktail dress. One for holiday parties and one for New Years is essential. Once upon a time...

Living a real life fairy tale, not just in numerous editorials... the leading Conte de Fées queen, Natalia Vodianova. This Russian beauty might not of had a fairy tale up bringing working with her mother at a fruit stand in Russia at age 11. But that all seemed to change when she was opening shows at 20 for big names like Yves Saint Laurent. She's been the starring role in huge editorials themed, "Into the Woods" or the iconic "Alice in Wonderland" setting alongside designer powerhouses. Ironically, that same year Vodianova was living her own real life fairy tale with her husband Justin Portman and was pregnant with their first child. Now a mother of 3 under the age of 1o. She maintains ad campaigns for Calvin Klein, Etam, DVF and David Yurman.
As for her happily ever after she says,

"I have done it. I have everything I want. I have made enough moeny to secure my family and that is all I care about." She's 27.

The End

the lenses have eyes

Behind every top model is a great photographer.
Their eyes are the ones behind the lenses of the camera and capturing the vision the editor seeks, the subject poses for, the image that stops you in your tracks.

A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart, leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it. It is, in a word, effective. - Irving Penn

The elite professionals who have changed the industry as we see it:

Irving Penn (the grand-father)
The first infamous Vogue fashion photographer recently passed this year at 92, but his work will forever be the groundwork that put Vogue on the map for its cutting edge editorials. Penn used his love for women to capture all their little details that may not be seen as beautiful to the regular eye. In fact, he even married his favorite model in 1950. His numerous compilations will continue to inspire many in the quest to take that great shot.

Juergen Teller (Mr. Marc Jacobs Collection)
His faithful clients Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood are only a few of the names who prefer his more titillating approach. "He photographed Angela Lindvall with a mound of white Champagne foam coming out of her crotch and named it New York, Paris, Milan I'm Coming."
Mario Testino (the innovator)
It seems all the V's in the industry can't get enough of him, from Vanity Fair to Vogue magazine. He knows everyone and what everyone wants. His photos somehow impeccably capture the time they were taken, but still transcend throughout the years.
Annie Leibovitz ( the rogue naturalist)
From natural beauties to controversy, Annie has got all her boxes checked and a portfolio that expands from touches of glamour to a variety of celebrities across the board. The American photographer is the leading celebrity fashion photographer of today.
Steven Meisel (the cover story)
He has shot over 317 Vogue Italia's and now American Vogue tries to snatch up whatever the Europeans don't want. Meisel knows how look beyond action packed events donning haute couture and capture the surreal . He's reshaped the campaigns of everyone from Louis Vuitton to Mulberry and nothings stopping him. MEISEL 2012

Emma Summerton (the it girl)
In 2008, the leading cover photographer for i-D Magazine was pinpointed as the "One to Watch" and boy have we watched her take off. She's here to stay and making that known with abstract approaches and huge ad campaigns for huge clients like Topshop and Jeager.

Modern times: Old meets New

As October comes to a close... a highlight paying tribute to modern art infused with old was this month's W editorial spread with leading lady Raquel Zimmerman. She donned this season's hottest trends and the impeccable styling was a refreshing patronage to go along with the infamous French settings. The ensemble of accessories went above and beyond with beaucoup gloves, rings, hats, patterned tights and of course the best bijoux à la mode . J'adore!

prendre une POSE

Lesson 1 I've learned from the French is they like faire une pause ... for a café, the latest gossip or a cigarette. But when you live in a city with 300 days of sun, you might as well enjoy it.

Lesson 2 The model who's been on my radar ever since I spotted her nose ring used in the new Gucci ads and looking fierce as ever is Abbey Lee Kershaw. The Aussie knows how to rock anything and everything. The self- described fashion bohemian is quoted saying,"I prefer to stick to my own thing, otherwise you become too conscious of trying to look like everybody else." Seems to me like everyone else is dying for her look and that's the reason she was a designer must-have; walking in over 20 shows in each city during fashion week. Rocking everything from bangs to being the Gucci and Alexander Wang muse of the moment. It also seems that the Italians can't get enough of her and named her Milan's Spring 2010 RTW Model of the Week. Plus who doesn't love a model who has a sense of style and knows damn well how to prendre une pose... [strike a pose]

Spotlight on Gaga

"Gaga for Givenchy" was the headline of my WWD morning report last Thursday and Gaga was spotted at various eccentric couture houses during NYC fashion week. Looks like Lady Gaga is the only one who can pull off Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 RTW collection. The woman has her own style and it is becoming iconic. The Haus of Gaga is making more headlines than the White House these days and it isn't all her own doing. From the masks to the pant less ensembles, no one since her very own idol Madge has had her own style and set the standard for entertainers around the world! At the MTV VMA's Gaga made headlines not only for her vintage Dior ensemble on the red carpet, but her striking performance of her hit Paparazzi. Her music videos are in their own category and considered mini-films like Paparazzi or the avant garde costumes in Poker face. In Beautiful, Dirty, Rich you can find Gaga rolling in mountains of cash in all the fall must haves like bold belts, leather gloves and bold shoulder dresses. She's quoted that her style mantra stems from "everything around her, like art, porn and vintage looks." Gaga enjoys dressing up and she knows how to rock the extraordinary not the ordinary. Now get set for her explosive "Fame Kills" tour with Kanye!

Spring 2010: is it raining already?

As New York fashion week is over and the tents of Bradley Park are being put away for next fall. After close review I've picked Haute Child's runway winners...

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
Project Runway didn’t give the fashion world any chump. This boy gives exactly what his favorite line says, “fierce.” Spring taupe essentials and big hats will be at the top of every southern French woman's list who lives in driving distance to the Medi. Plus the closing dress and model were impeccable together from the detailing of the ruffles to the material! Fierce!

BAND OF OUTSIDERS
They have found the solution to East coast meets West coast and perfected it. Their Spring RTW collection is definitely a winner with all your essentials covered from a harem pant to a khaki jumpsuit. Scott Sternberg, the head designer of Band of Outsiders is said to be the postmodern Ralph Lauren. I feel there is an underlying theme that reminds me of Prep schoolers getting lost on the Venice Beach boardwalk. I think this line could bring him out of up-and-coming status as a designer and have a permanent spot on the map!

RICHARD CHAI
When did little Richie Chai grow up and learn what every New York 20 -something woman wants? I love the collection all the way from the fuchsia romper to the diverse array of faces on the runway. Chai seriously struck gold and used my favorite versatile cut out bootie every girl wants! The separates streamline off of each other and every piece looks extremely wearable. Chai fused sexy downtown with uptown tailored basics. If this was his vision for Spring, can't wait for his Winter 2010 collection!

ISAAC MIZRAHI
Looks like this illustrious house hold name is changing his mantra from Americana to the Sophisticate. Isaac Mizrahi’s RTW collection this year was acclaimed to be an ode to YSL and you know I can’t get enough of that Le Smoking classiness. As expected this Bryant Park veteran didn’t let his recently relaunched Menswear line get in the way of designing a collection that saluted femininity and couture at its best.

PROENZA SCHOULER
I’ve always loved the dynamic duo behind Proenza Schouler who is Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. These two know hemlines and set the palette of colors for the season. Surprisingly, these two let a little bit of tribal come into their contemporary pieces this season and it came out fabulous. The drop waists worked and the ruffles looked effortless. I wouldn’t expect anything less from the innovative duo that knows how to polish an entire look.

Honorable mentions:
~ DVF’s batik tribal prints made my inner boho want to come out, and the sunflower yellow pieces were definitely show standouts. Plus loved seeing Lakshemi, Karlie, Sessilee and Chanel Iman all rocking the flower power.
~ Oscar de la Renta’s resort 2010 was very Eloise at the Plaza. While his Spring collection had elements of Princess vacationing in Morocco and shopping in Monte Carlo for the weekend. Always staying true to timeless looks that could persuade my own mother to buy something for me.
~ Preen’s models may have been on the scarier side but they definitely mastered the perfect cocktail dress with accents of lace on taupe. They definitely know how to put the WOW factor using the tiniest of detail.
~ A few others that have always been on my radar are critic's fave 3.1 Phillip Lim and Doo Ri. They know how to cut and design and had some outstanding show standouts.

Other honorable mention photo credits: Preen, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Doo Ri.
